Single molecule fluorescence in situ hybridization (smFISH) is a technique that uses multiple fluorescently labeled DNA probes to specifically bind and visualize individual RNA molecules within fixed cells, enabling precise quantification and spatial localization of gene expression at single-molecule and single-cell resolution

DNA-PAINT is a super-resolution microscopy technique that utilizes transient binding events between short fluorescently labeled DNA strands (imager strands) and target-bound complementary docking strands to achieve high-precision, multiplexed imaging of cellular structures at nanoscale resolution by analyzing stochastic blinking signals

Brett Cook

Founder and CEO

Dr. Brett Cook is the founder of Intrinsic Biosciences, a startup focused on supplying custom oligonucleotide reagents for spatial biology applications. Before his business venture, Brett led early product development and marketing efforts at Rebus Biosystems, culminating in the product launch of the Esper imaging system and corresponding multiplexed smFISH reagent kit. Prior to joining Rebus, Brett was a scientist at Biosearch Technologies where he developed new DNA products for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. At Biosearch, he optimized phosphoramidite DNA synthesis methods for hot-start PCR, electrochemical DNA biosensors, and aptamer-based therapeutics. Brett obtained his PhD in Biomolecular Science and Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.S. in Molecular Biology from the University of Washington, Seattle. At UCSB, he earned a certificate from the Technology Management Program and a top place in the annual New Venture Competition with a cancer diagnostic startup.
